Notes:
As you may know, Alabama is now one of only 3 states, not yet licensing professional Acupuncturists, limiting our ability to fully practice our medicine. The call will be 45 minutes. We are determining if there is enough volunteer effort to move our profession foward by changing the laws in Alabama.

*47 States are now licensed:
          *Why do we want Alabama Licensed?
               -protect ourselves and the practices we have built
          *Reason’s they will want us…
               -access to medical care
               -safety
          *Reason’s other states want this to move forward..
               ~to have a national movement and support for the field
The Southern Poverty Law Center passed all requests to Andrew “Andy” Yerby (sp) (Senior Policy Counsel)  at The AL Policy Institute-an avenue that may be of help in the future.
*Do we have the support to move forward with legislation in 2018?
          *Insurance isn’t paying directly for Acupuncture because we will have to push for that politically after or in conjunction with license.
          *Coalition of State Associations which now may be called Council of Coalition of States (**Drew, look into this**)
*Idea’s moving forward:
          *Divide Legislative Areas- each person blankets their representatives and area (or neighboring area) so that we are sharing the responsibility of contacting government            officials
          *Hire a lobbyist ($35-54,000 yr)
          *NFIB- we have been paying $195/yr to have a point of contact with them. We have yet to use it but would like to renew for the possibility of using it moving forward.
          *Automatic Fax App- sends fax’s to different legislators office (**David, look into this**)
          *Statewide Petition- both Dr. and Patient
**IMPORTANT DATES**
* June 2017 – Next Phone Conference
* September 2017 – In person meeting
          ~Elect Board Positions and/or create committees (create descriptions of positions/committees)
